Mammoth, Mammoth, Mammoth! I feel like that’s all everyone is talking about at the moment. And no, I’m not referring to the huge prehistoric animal, I’m talking about the new café in Armadale that is Mammoth in name and in popularity. Each weekend, eager foodies have been descending on this corner café to see what all the fuss is about and let me tell you, none of them are leaving disappointed.
In stark contrast to the animal from which it derives its name, this refined space is white and airy, fit out with light timber tables, subtle artwork furnishing the walls and just the right amount of greenery. It’s quite a fresh and on trend space which is perfectly suited to upmarket Armadale.
The real drawcard is the menu which is creative and inventive offering dishes like the lobster donut burger, egg and bacon popcorn, and egg brulee to name a few. Every dish is more unique than the last and will have you oohing and ahhhing as you decide what to eat.
I visited with a large group and was lucky enough to sample an array of dishes and for the most part was really impressed. The absolute standouts for me were the egg and bacon popcorn and the Golden Gaytime panna cotta with honey comb, sable biscuit and chocolate coated popping candy.
Oh the panna cotta! It was so good, I ate a whole serve to myself and could have easily gone another. It had a lovely smooth consistency and strong golden gaytime taste, paired with the popping candy, biscuit and honeycomb, it was just divine. Initially I wasn’t sure about the popping candy, but it really complemented the creamy panna cotta and that honeycomb was amazing. It was sweet without being too sticky and didn’t leave that gritty feeling in your mouth. Mmmmm, I’m salivating just thinking about it.
With so much hype and demand around this café, naturally comes long wait times. If you choose to visit during peak times expect to be waiting up to 50 minutes for a table (especially if you’re visiting for a weekend brunch). I really hate waiting for a table, so if you can I recommend visiting during the week. If not, rest assured it’s worth the wait, the food is amazing and definitely lives up to all the expectation.
