There’s really nothing new about nitro gelato, having taken the food scene by storm a few years back, people are still drawn to gelaterias where their icy treat is theatrically made under a cloud of liquid nitrogen. Although intriguing to watch gelato being set in an instant, I always saw it as a bit of a novelty, one that like any other food fad would come and go in an instant. But to my surprise it’s still going strong thanks to awesome dessert houses like Dex2rose who have concocted a number of mouth-watering treats that will keep you coming back for more.
Offering jujed up classics like their signature ‘Not Your Granny’s Apple Pie’ with chunks of apple churned in a milk gelato, then served with a chunky warm apple sauce, a waffle cone, cream and cinnamon, there is definitely nothing basic about their offering. If a contemporary take on apple pie doesn’t suit your fancy, then there is always their version of an Oreo Cheesecake served with a rich chocolate syringe, or the Salty Caramel which is topped with sweet caramel popcorn and nut clusters. Not feeling naughty? Then get your fruit fix with some refreshing lychee and raspberry sorbet.
Known predominately for their gelato, Dex2rose is much more than just a gelateria. Offering an interesting dessert and drinks list, you can enjoy a decadent Charcoal Chocolate Chip Waffle with your choice of topping, and wash it down with a cold brew coffee or arouse the senses with a ‘Mist in the Woods’ Hot Chocolate.
With the warm weather and holiday season quickly approaching, this is a great place to visit with the kids, family or out of towners for a truely Melbourne experience. Located down a dodgy looking laneway, like all things in town, this is often where all the gems are hidden and a gem this definitely is.
