A cafe connected to a renowned golf club and overlooking an iconic lake would be the envy of many in the restaurant game. Lucky for us, we have such an eatery right on our doorstep. Enter Greenfields, a classy Hamptons style cafe set in beautiful Albert Park, promoting all things health and wellness. With uninterrupted views of the lake and golf course, the impeccably furnished space oozes style and refinement, but maintains a real sense of Zen.
This focus on health and wellness is built into everything. Relaxing music rings out in the background, weekend yoga classes are conducted on their sprawling deck and they have partnered with a number of iconic wellness businesses, to in their words ‘encourage and educate guests on health, happiness, balance and love for life’.
Their menu is therefore designed to please a sophisticated palate with a focus on nutritious food, drawing from local, raw and organic products. There is nothing generic about this menu. You won’t find corn fritters, or a benedict, and gone is the breakfast panna cotta in favour of a summer melon and sunflower granola, or sticky buckwheat cooked in almond milk.
Now I must acknowledge that I did struggle with this menu. If you’re not into healthy/raw/organic ect, your options are limited. As much as I love porridge based dishes, it’s not usually something I’d order for lunch, but when nothing else was talking to me that’s what I found myself ordering. Lucky for me the millet porridge cooked in coconut water was simply divine, albeit a bit pricey at $18. Rich, creamy and bursting with flavour, it was perfect comfort food on a cold Melbourne day.
So if you’re conscious about what you put into your body, add Greenfields to your list.
We dined as guests of Greenfields, however all opinions are strictly my own.
