Long Story Short is synonymous with Port Melbourne, good food, and those oh so insta perfect Tim Tam Hotcakes. Appearing on most Melbourne food lists, be it Best Dishes, Most Insta Worthy Dishes, Best Hotcakes, Must Try Dishes in Melbourne ect ect, it tells you that maybe these truly decadent hotcakes are well worth the calories.
One beautiful spring day we were in Brunswick and decided to visit Long Story Short’s new cafe, a sister to it’s successful and highly popular Port Melbourne site. Located on a quite walkway off the main drag, this small cafe is bright, fresh and inviting. We visited midweek, so there were only a handful of people inside but it still had a really good vibe. The staff were friendly, welcoming and really accommodating to this mum with a couple of kiddies. Continue reading
13 Bligh Place
Melbourne Vic 3001
It’s been a while between posts, because you know, life and stuff happens. Outings have been few and far between (or not worth writing about!), but life seems to be flying by at the moment, I guess that’s what happens when you’ve got a couple of kids and run a business! Needless to say, the husband and I were super excited to be invited to the Spring Menu launch at Souk.
Having always had a soft spot for quality middle eastern cuisine, Souk has been on our to do list since it opened earlier this year. In their own words, they’re reinventing middle eastern food. All of the classic middle eastern flavours are there just with a contemporary spin that starts with a very Melbourne, lane way venue. Walking down Bligh Place, just off Flinders Lane your eyes are immediately drawn to the huge pink neon SOUK sign at the end of the laneway. Walk in and it almost feels like you’ve walked into a cool bar. The lights are low, the fit out it minimal so all of the focus is on a few pieces of striking artwork. The extensive wrap around bar is also a focal point, as are a few unique light fittings that in their own right could pass as pieces of artwork. Continue reading

When I’m looking to book a restaurant for our monthly date night, the only request my husband has is ‘there better be meat’. Sure, buddy! And off I go looking for restaurants specialising in steak or American BBQ. This month we hit the jackpot with Meatmaiden, a mix of both great quality steak and delicious BBQ.
Having heard great things from fellow bloggers, I was quite excited when we spotted the round neon sign above an unassuming doorway on Little Collins Street, walking through to a night of meaty goodness. But first we had to work out if we take the staircase up or down?? Turns out, down is the way to go. Continue reading

Newport Vic 3015
Oh Leroy, where have you been all my life? Well for the last year or so, in little old Newport, but why did I wait so long to visit? As a quality food and coffee deprived mum of two, of late my outings have been limited to child friendly venues, where the kiddies are happy, but my tastebuds are left feeling rather neglected (hence my lack of blog posts lately!). But that’s about to stop thanks to this amazing cafe that offers good coffee, delicious food and has an onsite playground for the kiddies. You read right fellow mumma’s! Good food and coffee while the kiddies are entertained for hours in the cubby house. That’s my kinda bliss! Continue reading

It really is the best feeling when you go somewhere with no expectations and walk away really impressed. That’s exactly what happened when my girlfriends and I payed Lady Carolina a visit. What made it even better is we really stumbled across this funky South American eatery by accident when looking for a decent Mexican restaurant in the North/Western suburbs (of which there aren’t many – budding restaurateurs take note!). Offering Latin influenced tapas and street food, you get to experience the best of South America in a really cool setting. Continue reading

Albert Park Lake Vic 3206
A cafe connected to a renowned golf club and overlooking an iconic lake would be the envy of many in the restaurant game. Lucky for us, we have such an eatery right on our doorstep. Enter Greenfields, a classy Hamptons style cafe set in beautiful Albert Park, promoting all things health and wellness. With uninterrupted views of the lake and golf course, the impeccably furnished space oozes style and refinement, but maintains a real sense of Zen. Continue reading

When a friend suggested we visit Lankan Tucker, I assumed we’d be getting a traditional Sri Lankan feed (not that I’ve even had that before, I figure something like Indian – go ahead judge me!). Fast forward two weeks and we got a nice surprise when we arrived at this modern cafe on Albion Street. There’s really nothing traditional about this place, the fit out is modern and very much on trend, they’ve got quality coffee on the brew and the menu is a creative fusion of classic Sri Lankan cuisine and modern Melbourne brunch. It’s a unique concept in a saturated market place but they’ve pulled it off to create a foodie experience like no other. Continue reading
