Foodie Corner – The Kettle Black, Manchester Press, Purple Peanuts

A few mixed reviews this week. I’ve said it below, but seriously if you haven’t been to Manchester Press make it a priority!

The Kettle Black
50 Albert Road
South Melbourne Vic 3205

The Kettle Black is all the rage at the moment, you almost can’t have a conversation with a fellow foodie without it coming up, so naturally I had high expectations and to be honest It didn’t quite live up to it.

The café itself looks great and is super easy to get to and find parking. The service was really quick and friendly, so no issues on that front. In terms of food, we ordered the iconic Top Paddock ricotta hotcake that they brought across to the Kettle Black and the Wagyu steak sandwich.

Ok, so the hotcake is a sure thing, it is absolutely delicious and never disappoints, but it’s been done before, so this isn’t really new ground.  I have to be honest, I looked at the menu and there wasn’t a whole lot that I wanted to eat, that’s why I went for the hotcake safe option.
We also ordered the Wagyu steak sandwich, which was a bit disappointing. It was tasty, but the steak was so chewy and just down right difficult to eat which kinda destroyed it for me.

On the way out I picked up a couple of the Doughboys Donuts, but was really disappointed when I got home to notice that they had given me the wrong flavour, Banana of all flavours, I HATE banana!

Overall I thought the Kettle Black was ok, I really really wanted to love this place, so I’m a bit devastated to say that It was just ok.
